POR AFP – Messi partió como suplente e ingresó al duelo en sustitución de Benjamin Cremaschi, en el minuto 54, en medio de una enorme expectación y entusiasmo en el DRV PNK Stadium

La espera mereció la pena. El estreno de Lionel Messi no pudo ser mejor para el Inter Miami, que venció este viernes 2-1 al Cruz Azul mexicano en la jornada inaugural de la Leagues Cup, con un precioso gol de falta de la estrella argentina en el descuento.

El partido parecía dirigirse a la tanda de penales cuando Messi provocó una falta al borde del área.

El reloj señalaba el minuto 90+4 cuando el genio de Rosario colocó la pelota con cuidado, levantó la cabeza y disparó con efecto a la escuadra derecha del arco mexicano desatando la locura en el estadio DRV PNK.

La afición del Inter Miami pudo probar un adelanto de lo que le espera con el siete veces Balón de Oro entre sus filas, al igual que lo hizo una colección de celebridades que le siguieron desde la primera fila, como LeBron James o Serena Williams.

El equipo floridano empezó dormido ante un Cruz Azul que lo hizo todo mejor en el inicio del partido.

«Messi, Messi»

En la banda, el entrenador argentino Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino gesticulaba tratando de imponer en vano un poco de orden en su zaga. Y los aficionados, que llenaron los cerca de 20.000 asientos del estadio de Fort Lauderdale (a 50 km de Miami), coreaban el nombre del jugador al que todos querían ver: «Messi, Messi».

El dominio del Cruz Azul llegó a ser aplastante en la primera hora pero no logró concretar ninguna de las numerosas ocasiones, incluido un tiro al palo del argentino Carlos Rotondi.

Enfrente, el Inter Miami trataba de sacar provecho de los pocos balones que tocaba. Un par de jugadas de su extremo Robbie Robinson, el mejor del equipo en la primera parte, fueron la única esperanza de una reacción.

Ésta llegó justo antes del descanso con una gran jugada del extremo finlandés Robert Taylor. Recibió por la izquierda, amagó con desbordar al lateral contrario, regateó hacia adentro, aceleró y colocó un disparo pegado al palo opuesto al que no pudo llegar el portero en el minuto 44.

De camino al túnel de vestuarios, los jugadores del Cruz Azul se preguntaban probablemente cómo podían ir perdiendo 1-0.

Un gol de museo

La fiesta parecía completa con la entrada de Messi en el minuto 54. El estadio recibió en pie, con un rugido de alegría, al ídolo argentino. Junto a él saltó al césped otro de los hombres llamados a transformar al Inter Miami, el centrocampista español Sergio Busquets.

El Cruz Azul dio un paso atrás. Con Messi y Busquets en el campo, el equipo floridano se posicionó mejor y dejó de sufrir. Un rumor recorría las gradas cada vez que la ‘Pulga’ recibía por la banda derecha. Lo intentó, se asoció y parecía cuestión de tiempo que acabara provocando un gol.

Así estaba el partido cuando el equipo mexicano recordó cómo marcar un gol. En una jugada en apariencia poco peligrosa, el delantero Uriel Antuna recibió la pelota en el área, se dio la vuelta y lanzó un potente disparo a la red en el minuto 65.

El Cruz Azul, último de la liga mexicana con tres derrotas en tantos partidos, parecía decidido a aguarle el debut a Messi.

El mejor jugador del mundo lo siguió intentando, dando pinceladas de su enorme calidad y de sus ganas de victoria. Bajó a recibir al centro del campo, regateó, abrió a las bandas, dio pases en profundidad, se desmarcó.

En un bonito pase entre líneas, Busquets dejó a Messi solo ante la portería, pero el arquero mexicano desvió el disparo del argentino.

Y entonces llegó la maravilla, la falta pegada a la escuadra, inalcanzable para el portero mexicano y que revivía a un equipo que es último de la temporada en la MLS y llevaba 11 partidos sin ganar.

Fue la mejor bienvenida para la nueva megaestrella del deporte de Miami, a quien acudieron a dar la bienvenida miembros del olimpo deportivo de Estados Unidos como LeBron James.

El actual líder de los Lakers y ganador de dos títulos en su etapa en los Miami Heat se fundió en un largo abrazo con Messi pocos minutos antes del pitido inicial.

En las gradas también brillaban otras figuras del deporte, como la extenista Serena Williams, y de la música, como Marc Anthony, todos ellos recibidos por David Beckham, copropietario del Inter, y su esposa Victoria.

Tras Cruz Azul, también último clasificado en la liga mexicana, el Inter afrontará el martes al Atlanta United en su segundo y último partido de la fase de grupos de la Leagues Cup.

Los dos mejores clasificados de cada uno de los 15 grupos del torneo avanzarán a las eliminatorias de dieciseisavos de final, que comenzarán el 2 de agosto.
