Tulsa, OK- Hace 24 años nacía en Tulsa un sueño de fe. De la mano de Carmen Gil se fundaba el ministerio hispano de la Iglesia Victory que sirve hoy a más de 1900 miembros en Tulsa.

El pasado domingo toda la congregación se reunió en los jardines de la iglesia emplazada en 10811 E 41st Street para dar testimonio de la familia que es Victory y de lo mucho que creció a la par de la comunidad hispana de Tulsa.

Carmen Gil es su pastora principal y aún recuerda el día de la inauguración: “abrimos con 7 personas y hoy celebramos la fidelidad y la bondad de dios que ha continuado bendiciendonos, sabiendo que  Dios nos sonríe cuando festejamos juntos en familia”, aseguró.

En todos esos años la convicción de Carmen creció y su fe la llevó por caminos inimaginables. Se acercó a Dios para curar su corazón tras un doloroso divorcio y a partir de ahí, su vida cambió para siempre hasta convertirla en uno de los principales referentes de la comunidad hispana de la ciudad.

“Estaba pasando por un momento de tanto dolor que no podía encontrar mi razón de existir, me sentía un fracaso, pero  alguien me trajo la biblia y conocí la palabra y por qué fuimos creados”, dijo la pastora.  De la mano de dios aprendió a sanar sus heridas y a incentivar a otros a seguir su camino. “Cuando encuentras a ese dios de restauración no es que no haya más problemas, es al caminar de la mano de dios los problemas se hacen más llevaderos”.

Carmen sabe bien lo que es el dolor, especialmente tras la muerte de su hija algunos años atrás, no obstante no bajó los brazos y se apoyó en dios y Victory para salir adelante.  “Cuando murió mi hija con 33 años no podia entender por qué pasaban las cosas. “Muchas veces lo que deseamos y pensamos no se alinea con lo que somos. Pero aprendí que hay que hay que confiar en el Señor cuando hace milagros extraordinarios y también cuando tengo las peores pérdidas que me tiran y no me dejan levantar”.

Ni la pandemia pudo con Gil, que siguió levantando a su iglesia, celebrando matrimonios, bautismos y misas para brindarle bienestar a la comunidad. Hubo quienes sacaron a la luz lo mejor de si y otros que se alejaron del camino del señor, pero la clave para no dejarse vencer , como ella bien dice es no tener miedo. “Lo importante en todo momento, es tener dominio propio y alejarse del temor porque dios no nos dio un espiritu de temor. El temor atrae lo que no quieres y la fe atrae bendiciones”, recomendó.

Pasaron 24 años en Victory, más de dos décadas en las que algunos permanecieron y otros se fueron, pero lo que nunca se modificó es la confianza en la iglesia y su rol vital dentro de la comunidad hispana de Tulsa. “Si la iglesia se centra en el reconocimiento de cristo jesus él la va a levantar”, asegura Gil, mientras mira a Victory elevarse alto.

Tulsa, OK- 24 years ago a dream of faith was born in Tulsa. Carmen Gil founded the Hispanic ministry of Victory Church, which today serves a community of more than 1900 faithful.

Last Sunday the whole congregation came together in the gardens of the religious institution located at 10811 East 41st Street to provide testimony of the family that victory has become and the growth that accompanied the flourishing of the Hispanic community in the city.

Carmen Gil is the main pastor and today she still remembers the shivers of the beginnings.

“We opened with only seven people and today we celebrate the fidelity and the benevolence of God, who has given us continuous blessings. We know that God smiles when we celebrate together as a family,” she said.

Along the years Carmen’s faith grew stronger, and her love for God helped her surmount the worst of catastrophes. She decided to become a pastor after a painful divorce that changed her life forever, and since that moment she became one of the founders of the local Hispanic community.

“I was struggling, in a moment of so much pain that I couldn’t find any purpose in my life. I felt like a failure, but then, somebody gave me a Bible and I learned God’s words and the reason why we were created became clear,” Gil recalled. 

With God’s help she healed her wounds and encouraged others to follow in her footsteps.

“When you find your God of restauration, it’s not that problems go away, what happens is that by walking at his side, everything gets lighter,” said the pastor.

Carmen knows what pain is, especially after the early death of her daughter some years ago, a tragedy that defied her temper and challenged her spirits.

“When she died at only 33 years old, I could not understand why certain things happened,” she confessed. “Most of the time what we want, and what we think, is not in line with reality. But I’ve learned that we need to trust the Lord when He does miracles and when I suffer those losses that do not let me wake up.”

Not even the pandemic was able to stop Gil’s will. She continued working at her Church, celebrating marriages, baptisms and giving all kinds of services to her community. There were some that grew in spirit during these troubling times, others that decided to take a break from the path of the Lord, but to all of them Carmen had the same advice: do not be afraid.

“The most important thing at every moment is to keep control of oneself, and to move away from fear, because God gave us a different kind of spirit, one that has nothing to do with fright. Fear attracts everything you do not want; faith brings blessings along.”

24 years have gone by at Victory, more than two decades in which some left and others remained, but what has been left untouched is the trust in Gil and her essential role in the Hispanic community.

“If a church is centered on the acknowledgement of Jesus Christ, then He will help to raise it,” said Gil, while looking at Victory standing tall.
