Jennifer Aguirre: un ejemplo para la juventud hispana / Jennifer Aguirre, a new face of the Hispanic community

Innumerables veces La Semana ha escrito sobre las virtudes de los grandes líderes de nuestra comunidad, personas con aptitudes excepcionales que han logrado conseguir el sueño americano y devuelto a sus paisanos. Pero no muchas veces hemos puesto la lupa en las generaciones más jóvenes,  los hispanos que también están haciendo historia. Y nadie mejor para confirmarlo que Jennifer Aguirre, una líder en potencia que con 16 años que prefiere estudiar en línea a ir a la escuela para poder ayudar a sus padres con su negocio y “aprender más”. 

Aguirre es el resultado de la fusión de dos culturas latinas, su padre, un Mexicano amante de la cocina y dueño de varios restaurantes en la ciudad, su madre, Guatemalteca, orgullosa sembradora de la semilla de la generosidad, incansable trabajadora y embajadora del amor del hogar. “Me siento muy orgullosa de mis raíces, mis papás son triunfadores en América y quiero seguir sus pasos”, enunció Jennifer con una seguridad sorprendente.

“Por eso, cuando me gradúe quiero ir a estudiar gastronomía al Cordon Bleu, en Francia, y luego regresar con todo lo aprendido para renovar los restaurantes de mis padres. Y algún día abriré una cadena de restaurantes aquí, y también en otros países”, afirmó, con una claridad de futuro que muchos quisieran tener.

Cuando Aguirre no estudia, trabaja en el negocio con sus padres donde prueba recetas nuevas y experimenta en la cocina. Y precisamente para tener más tiempo para estos menesteres fue que decidió optar por la educación en línea, para aprender lo que para ella más cuenta. “Sentía que la escuela no ofrecía un lugar para mí. Allí estás ocho horas haciendo pura tarea y no queda tiempo para nada. En línea puedo hacer las cosas a mi ritmo y tener más tiempo para trabajar y aprender más”, reconoció, asegurando ser la artífice de su camino.

Y tanto estudió  que el esfuerzo dio frutos y recientemente Jennifer obtuvo un premio al mejor promedio entregado por la National Honor Society consiguiendo una beca completa para ir a cualquier universidad dentro de Estados Unidos. “Lamentablemente esa beca no sirve para otros países, por eso decidí donarla y espero con ansias encontrar a esa personita a quien dársela”, expresó con gratitud.

Y si hay algo de lo que sabe esta muchachita es de generosidad, pues en su corta vida ha hecho varias campañas de caridad para hospitales y escuelas de Guatemala y hasta se convirtió en embajadora del hospital de niños de ese país. “Mis padres me han enseñado a ser independiente y a tomar mis propias decisiones, pero por sobre todas las cosas me han enseñado a dar y en Guatemala cada año entregamos juguetes, zapatos y más cosas para los niños que más lo necesitan”, dijo con humildad. 

La generosidad de Aguirre no pareciera tener fin y por eso en su fiesta de quince optó por no recibir regalos. “Yo no quería regalos, quería que todos los que vinieran a mi fiesta colaboraran con el hospital de niños, y logramos juntar unos $55000”, contó.

Es que a Jennifer no le interesan los zapatos caros, el maquillaje y los autos, ella lucha por hacer del mundo uno distinto, donde las personas se toleren y respeten y el diálogo sea la base de la comunicación social. “Si fuera millonaria construiría mi propia organización de caridad para asistir a miles de niños”, reconoce, agregando que haría todo lo posible por ensenarle a la gente a cuidar y valorar el mundo en el que vive.

Hay quienes opinan que Jennifer nació madura, sin embargo ella cree que es producto de su cultura, sus raíces hispanas, y el amor de sus padres. “Soy así porque me han ayudado mucho mis padres a madurar y mis hermanitas, a quienes debo cuidar. Tengo dos hermanitas pero son muy tremendas, las llevo a la escuela, a comer, a salir a jugar, lo que deseen”, dijo asumiendo su responsabilidad de hermana mayor.

Jennifer Aguirre es un ejemplo a seguir por su inquebrantable sentido de la responsabilidad, por la voluntad con la que cada día antepone su educación por sobre las banalidades de la vida adolescente, por la infinita sabiduría que le otorga su inmensa capacidad de dar  y por como construye a diario el sendero que la conduce a su futuro de la mano de su familia y de sus raíces latinas. 

A todos los jóvenes inspirados por sus convicciones Aguirre les aconseja. “ Tienen que empezar desde ya a trabajar si quieren triunfar en la vida porque no es sólo salir de la universidad y ver que se quiere hacer, uno tiene que empezar ese camino desde el inicio, porque uno, aunque sea muy pequeño puede hacer grandes cosas”. (La Semana)

Jennifer Aguirre, a new face of the Hispanic community

Countless times La Semana has published articles on the virtues and accomplishments of the most notable Hispanic leaders of our city, people that have achieved their own American dream and found exceptional ways to give back to their community. But is not often that we find such leaders among the youngest Hispanics, who are also making history. And this is the case of Jennifer Aguirre, who at 16 prefers to study online to be able to help her parents with work and “learn the job on the way.” 

Aguirre was born from the fusion of two Latin cultures. Her father is Mexican, a man that loves the culinary arts and owns a couple of restaurants in Tulsa. Her mother, from Guatemala, is a hard-working woman who plants the seeds of generosity in the family and makes life homier. 

“I feel very proud of my Latin roots — my parents have triumphed in America, and I want to follow in their footsteps,” said Jennifer with conviction.

“When I graduate from high school, I want to study gastronomy at Cordon Bleu in France, and then come back home and make the restaurants better. Someday I will have my own chain of restaurants here in the states and in other countries,” she stated, dreaming alive of her future.

When Aguirre is not studying, she works at her parents’ business, combining recipes and experimenting with new flavors in the kitchen. And precisely to be able to try more things she chose homeschooling, so that she could master her time to learn, focusing on what really counts. 

“I felt [traditional] school wasn’t for me,” she explained. “There you must spend eight hours, studying things that I didn’t really like and with tons of homework. Online I manage my own time, and I’m able to work and learn more.” 

And all her decisions have paid off, because she recently won an award by the National Honor society which has offered Jennifer a full scholarship to study at any university in the states. 

“Unfortunately, that scholarship cannot be used abroad so I will have to donate it, and I cannot wait to find the right person,” she expressed.

Jennifer knows a lot about contributing to good causes, because in her short life she has already become an ambassador of the Children’s Hospital of Guatemala, where she donates work, time, toys, and money. 

“My parents taught me many things, to be independent, to make my own decisions and to give back to the community. And in Guatemala every year we deliver toys, shoes and lots of other things for the children that need it the most,” she said humbly.

Jennifer´s generosity seems never-ending, and last year at her quinceañera party she made a very special request. 

“I didn’t want any presents, instead I asked the guests to contribute to the Roosevelt children’s hospital, and we raised $55,000,” she said.

This girl is unique, she is not blinded by the expensive shoes, make-up, and cars every teenager wants, rather she just wants to change the world, to make it brighter and a place where people respect each other and communicate with words and not with guns. 

“If I were a millionaire, I would create a new organization to help all the children in the world,” she stated, adding she would do everything in her power to help people cherish the world they live in.

There are those who believe Jennifer was born with a special mind, but she believes it is the product of the culture and the values she was raised with, along the support and unconditional love from her parents. 

“I am like this because my parents have helped me and my little sisters, whom I must watch. I have two sisters who are tremendous, and I take them to school, out to eat, to play, whatever they need,” said Aguirre, happy with her responsibility.

Jennifer Aguirre is an example for our community, not only for her sense of responsibility and diligence, but also for the way in which she makes her future prevail by putting education and work first. She may be just another teenager, but she is one who happens to know life is about taking good care of others in other to give back, and leads her way accompanied by the love of her family and her Latin roots.

To all the teenagers out there inspired by her convictions, Aguirre advises: “You have to start from scratch and start working now if you want to triumph in life. You don’t have to wait until you finish college, the road must be carved today. Even if we are young we can achieve great things.” (La Semana)
